2020. Was. Wild.
Okay, let’s address the elephant in the room…2020. This crazy, historic, life-changing year created a whirlwind of emotions for the wedding industry. Weddings were canceled, venues had to be rebooked, vendors had to back out and the pandemic all around changed many couples’ expectations for their wedding day. But you know what??? That is okay! With micro weddings and elopements on the rise, couples are getting more creative than ever and as a wedding photographer, it’s been so fun to watch!
You may think it’d be difficult to put together a small and tasteful dream wedding, but it’s a lot easier than you think! Seriously, if you look up “micro or small wedding ideas” on Pinterest, there’s already a TON of inspo. (The internet works very fast, people!) Couples are starting to put more focus on the actual ceremony, making it more intimate and putting more effort into the small, personalized details that make them happy. One of the many plus sides is you get to have a more personal and emotional experience.
Let’s talk elopements
And speaking of personal and emotional, let’s talk eloping. Usually when elopements are brought up, lands far far away, long hikes, and hills that are alive come to mind. And while those do sound like beautiful fantastical options, we’re here to tell you that you can elope anywhere your heart desires! Whether it’s your favorite city, a place you’ve always wanted to visit, or where you and your partner met, it’s all fair game to be the perfect backdrop for one of the most important days of your lives.
Take this shoot, a fusion of romance and the cityscape of urban Seattle, WA. With the muted, gray tones of the surrounding buildings, we knew that when it came to decor, we wanted the contrast of bold, vivid hues. Luxe, unique pieces for the table settings, where every single element was thoughtfully and intentionally chosen. For an unexpected unique experience, we brought in a personal cigar bar where a torcedor, a cigar rolling expert, rolls your very own cigar right in front of you. And who doesn’t love options?! Beautifully crafted and oh so delicious cakes and pies were both offered for dessert.
All the deets
The couple looked absolutely beautiful with the groom rocking a classic tux with a deep maroon bow tie and pocket square to compliment the decor. And don’t even get us started on the bride! A wonderfully unexpected choice of a gorgeous black dress paired with a low chignon and soft makeup, they were absolute perfection to celebrate the union of their love.
With the ability to completely customize your wedding, from outfits to location, experiences to decor, it’s no wonder that elopements and intimate weddings are on the rise. Weight out all of your options, but know that you don’t have to adhere to a standard wedding package on your day if you don’t want to. Your love is magnificent, unique, once in a lifetime, and should be treated as such!
